An Irish Doodle is an Irish Setter and Standard Poodle cross. These are both pure breed dogs that excel in different areas.
We breed them because not only have we found them to be a wonderful companion that has excelled in many different areas from calm therapy lines to the perfect all around sport/field companion but also found when crossing two purebred dogs that longevity of life is extended as well. Our pets are part of the family and each additional year is most precious.
Positive attributes to the Irish Doodle are several. I will name a few, for instance the ability to be the best family companion. They have wonderful calm and laid back demeanors. When genetic tested correctly they can also be very low shedding first generation and require significant less grooming than the standard poodles more high maintenance grooming. The negatives, while I can’t think of many, I will say many new owners do say the side affect of owning Irish Doodles become compelling to add another pet companion to their family. Some have reported the larger size can take up too much space on the couch as well.
Yes, we do! All Irish Doodle Association Members strictly adhere to the ethical testing of breeding adults that have been selecting for breeding programs prior to joining.
The reason we do this is to ensure that only the genetically clear and OFA Certified dogs are chosen to produce the best healthy offspring. The DNA testing can be done at most any age to verify that specific breeds are free and clear of all known mutations and variants to the breed tested. The OFA Certification can not be completed until the age of 24 months or older. The reason for this is to make sure the bones have completely developed and can be evaluated by a panel of board certified orthopedic specialist from the Orthopedic Foundation For Animals.
Please learn more about the organization here and the testing requirements.
The Irish Doodle Membership Association is made up of voluntary members for those who wish to join as ethical breeders and adhere to the health testing standards set forth by the association.
The Association requires that all breeder members adhere to the required health testing and provide the genetic tests along with their OFA Certification or Pennhip results.
We are pleased to share the membership directory by state with you as a most invaluable resource for anyone searching for future Irish Doodle family members.
